WhatsApp Automations enable businesses to automate customer communication and send personalized messages. By integrating WhatsApp with platforms like Klaviyo and Trengo, companies can use WhatsApp as an effective channel for marketing and customer service. In this article, I’ll explain what WhatsApp Automations are and how you can use them to improve your customer communication.

What is WhatsApp Automation?

With WhatsApp Automations, you can send automated messages based on specific triggers, such as purchases, sign-ups, or other events. WhatsApp automation integration connects WhatsApp with other platforms or systems to automate your communication. This allows you to use WhatsApp as both a marketing channel and for customer service.

Who Can Use WhatsApp Automations?

Whether you’re a small business looking to provide order updates or a large company aiming to send personalized marketing messages, WhatsApp Automations offer valuable opportunities. Anyone can use WhatsApp Automations, but it's especially useful for businesses looking to engage customers through WhatsApp.

What Is the Purpose of the WhatsApp X Klaviyo Integration?

The purpose of integrating WhatsApp with Klaviyo is to increase customer engagement and improve communication with customers. By integrating WhatsApp with Klaviyo, businesses can send targeted and personalized messages such as order updates, promotions, and customer service notifications. This enables companies to connect directly with customers via their preferred messaging platform, increasing the likelihood of engagement and conversion.

By using WhatsApp Automations, businesses can scale their customer communication while maintaining a personal touch. It is particularly useful for:

  • Real-Time Notifications: Using Klaviyo webhooks, businesses can receive real-time notifications from Klaviyo, such as purchase events or order updates. This allows for immediate and proactive customer engagement, improving the overall customer experience.

  • Personalization and Targeting: The integration allows businesses to customize their communication with customers. By combining Klaviyo’s segmentation and targeting options with Trengo, businesses can send personalized messages, offers, or notifications to specific customer groups based on their previous purchases, preferences, or behavior. This helps create a more tailored and relevant customer experience.

  • Improved Customer Satisfaction: By integrating Trengo and Klaviyo, businesses can provide timely, personalized, and efficient customer communication. This leads to improved customer satisfaction, as customers receive relevant information, updates, and support when they need it. This ultimately helps build stronger relationships and loyalty.

What Do You Need for WhatsApp Integration?

To integrate WhatsApp, you need four key things:

  • WhatsApp Business-account: A WhatsApp Business account is required to integrate with Klaviyo and other systems. This is a business-specific account offering features and capabilities tailored for companies.

  • Klaviyo-account: An active Klaviyo account is required. Klaviyo is an email marketing platform that enables integration with other channels, including WhatsApp.

  • Trengo-account: Trengo is a customer communication platform that centralizes all communication channels, including WhatsApp, into one inbox. A Trengo account is necessary to set up the integration between Klaviyo and WhatsApp.

  • Klaviyo Flow: Set up the desired flow that triggers WhatsApp campaigns when specific events occur. Configuring a specific flow ensures that you can activate a specific WhatsApp automation.

How to Perform the Integration?

To integrate WhatsApp with Klaviyo and Trengo, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Klaviyo account and navigate to the Settings.

  1. Look for Integrations or Connected Accounts.

  1. To configure the webhook, follow these steps:

a. Go to the Trengo for developers page.

b. Enter the URL found on this page, under the title of the API Call you want to activate.

c. Type the word 'Authorization' in the 'Key' field.

d. Type the word 'Bearer' in the 'Value' field and paste your Trengo API key.

e. This API key can be (re)generated by going to Trengo > Settings > App and Integrations > Rest API and clicking on 'Regenerate API token'. Please note that regenerating your API token will invalidate the current token.

f. Paste the JSON body of your API call and ensure that you remove the quotation marks around numbers in your parameter variables.

When configuring the JSON body for API calls, it’s crucial to pay close attention to the parameters and variables that define your WhatsApp message content.

Note: To ensure the integration is functioning correctly, verify the connection between Klaviyo and Trengo. You can do this by testing the communication between both platforms, such as sending a test message from Klaviyo to WhatsApp via Trengo.

Utilizing Trengo's WhatsApp Templates

During the integration process, it’s essential to create WhatsApp templates in Trengo. These templates should include the messages that businesses want to send to their customers. By associating a unique template ID with Klaviyo, businesses can link the correct message content to specific triggers in Klaviyo. This ensures consistent and personalized messaging, delivering a cohesive customer experience.

Reminder: Keep up with the latest WhatsApp policies and the platforms involved to ensure compliance and optimal usage.

How to Create a WhatsApp Flow and What You Need

To create a WhatsApp flow, you’ll need the following:

  1. Define your goals: Identify specific goals for your WhatsApp automation, such as welcome messages, personalized offers, or order updates. Respect customer privacy and avoid sending unsolicited messages.
  2. Map the customer journey: Identify the touchpoints and determine how you want to respond to interactions via WhatsApp. Create a customer journey map to get a clear overview.
  3. Set rules and triggers: Create rules and triggers to send messages based on specific actions or activities. You can use Klaviyo or Trengo’s automation features for this.
  4. Create relevant messages and content: Develop content that resonates with your target audience. Personalize messages based on customer data and preferences. Provide valuable content, such as exclusive offers and personalized recommendations.
  5. Test and optimize: Test your WhatsApp flow to ensure messages are being sent correctly. Optimize based on feedback and performance analysis. Keep experimenting and testing to maximize results.

Continuous Testing and Optimization

To ensure the integration works correctly and delivers the desired results, continuous testing and optimization are essential. Regularly test flows, triggers, and responses to identify potential issues or areas for improvement. By monitoring customer feedback and analyzing key performance indicators, you can refine your flows and maximize the benefits of the integration.

Think from the Customer’s Perspective

When using WhatsApp Automation, the primary focus should be on delivering value to the customer. Think about how your automations can help solve problems, provide relevant information, and improve the overall customer experience. Always remember that your customers have given you permission to reach them via WhatsApp, so make sure your messages are personal, targeted, and valuable.

WhatsApp Automations: A Promising Future

WhatsApp Automations have a promising future, especially when combined with transactional emails. Consider automating messages when customers place an order, such as order confirmations, shipping updates, and invoices. This automated approach ensures smooth and streamlined communication with your customers, enhancing customer satisfaction and engagement.

With these tips, you can establish a strong foundation for setting up effective WhatsApp flows that add value to both your business and your customers.
