Founded in 1980, this Amsterdam-based kitchen store is now run by the four sons of its original founders. What started as a professional sharpening service has grown into a full-fledged kitchen store and engraving studio. Meesterslijpers sets itself apart with a unique collection of Japanese knives that can’t be found anywhere else, as well as the personalized options they offer their customers. The ability to customize products makes Meesterslijpers a go-to destination for thoughtful gifts for cooking enthusiasts. In addition to their physical store in Amsterdam Oud-West, Meesterslijpers also has a webshop where customers can place orders.

De Uitdaging
Meesterslijpers approached Polaris Growth in search of a more professional approach to email marketing. “We were missing out on a lot of opportunities,” said René, one of the co-owners. While a significant portion of the budget was spent on customer acquisition, there was little focus on retention. “An existing customer is more valuable than a new one.” For Meesterslijpers, customer loyalty is one of the most important pillars of the business. In their physical store, customers visit more frequently and personal contact is a key part of the experience. They were looking for a way to replicate that level of connection in the online environment.
That’s when René started looking for a fitting partner. Polaris Growth stood out to him, as it was clear they also place great value on a personal and customer-centric approach—values that align closely with those of Meesterslijpers.
Since Meesterslijpers was already using Klaviyo, it was up to Polaris Growth to redesign and improve the existing set-up and processes. The first step was implementing a renewed account set-up, including new subscriber, browse, and cart abandonment flows. In addition, both Meesterslijpers and Polaris Growth aimed to safeguard an optimal sender reputation. To achieve this, a general account check was carried out to ensure all necessary settings were correctly configured within Klaviyo.
